Ballycastle Named NI's Best Place To Live

Ballycastle has been named Northern Ireland's Best Place to Live by the Sunday Times.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Richard Holmes said it was another positive endorsement for the town following its previous success in the annual survey in 2020.

This year, Ballycastle has been recognised for its 'strong independent streak' and 'welcoming atmosphere' which created a ‘blissful base for families’. Its vibrant food scene was also singled out for praise.

Speaking after his visit, the Mayor said: "When you look around Ballycastle on a busy Saturday morning it’s clear to see why it is so deserving of this accolade. There is a special community feel to the town and it is home to a wealth of unique businesses which create a welcoming environment for locals and visitors alike.

"A walk through the centre takes you past lots of family-owned shops, restaurants and cafés where you will want to spend time before you are led down to the beautiful seafront area with views across to the magnificent Fairhead and Rathlin Island, and a mile-long stretch of beach. This mix of an attractive town centre offering, impressive outdoor space and a coastal setting is certainly proving to be a winning combination.

"Our recent street art project has brought an extra dimension to the town as well, with public art dotted on walls, gates and alleyways, headlined by a stunning full gable wall piece at the top of Castle Street. This striking impression of Princess Taise at the corner of Glentaise Avenue is a must see for everyone.

"I'm also very pleased that the town’s historic Museum, which is home to a treasure trove of artefacts, has now re-opened for the season ahead and we’re very grateful to the volunteers who make this possible and who have so much to share about the history and heritage of this fantastic part of our Borough."
