James Turley Jailed For 'Vicious' Assault In August 2019
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of James Turley in connection with a "vicious" assault in Belfast's Short Strand area in 2019.
At Belfast Crown Court, Turley, aged 28, was sentenced to three years, one year custody and two years on licence, after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and common assault.
Detective Inspector Michael McDonnell said: "This was a particularly vicious assault, which took place outside a house in Short Strand in the early hours of 26 August 2019.
"It began with an argument inside a house and escalated, outside, to a shockingly brutal attack in which Turley inflicted serious injuries.
"The male victim sustained a broken jaw, which required surgery, and had a tooth knocked out. A chunk of flesh was actually bitten from his eyebrow, which subsequently required skin grafts.
"It was a cruel attack, which no one should ever have to experience.
"While I know that the memories, understandably, remain distressing, I hope that today’s sentencing brings some peace of mind to the victim."
