40-Year-Old Man Charged Over North Belfast Security Alert

A 40-year-old man has appeared before Laganside Magistrates Court charged in connection with a security alert at a peace-building event in north Belfast.

The man was charged with "preparation of terrorist acts, hijacking and placing an article causing bomb hoax" in connection with an incident when a van was hijacked and the driver forced to drive, what he was told was an explosive device to the Houben Centre on the Crumlin Road where Irish Minister Simon Coveney was addressing a peace-building event. The incident also disrupted a funeral taking place at Holy Cross Church.

A 48-year-old woman also arrested in connection with the incident has since been released pending further investigation.

Man Charged In Connection With Hit And Run In L'Derry
A man has been charged in connection with a hit and run collision in L'Derry. The incident happened in the Abercorn Road area on 09 November last year. A male pedestrian was struck by a car and suffered head and leg injuries. Two men aged 18 and 19 were arrested after the incident.

Man Arrested Over George Gilmore Murder
Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the murder of loyalist George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. A 32-year-old man arrested on Sunday, 19 March, has been released.
