Fire damaged North Street arcade to be demolished
A leading Belfast shopping arcade looks likely to be demolished following a serious fire at the weekend.
North Street Arcade, which has been a landmark in the area since the 1930's, sustained significant damage after a fire caught hold on Saturday.
The centre, which runs between lower North Street and Donegall Street, was well-ablaze before fire emergency crews arrived at the scene.
Such was the extent of the blaze that people had to be evacuated out of nearby pubs and flats.
A number of shops and businesses premises were destroyed in the fire.
Fire officers returned to the arcade on Sunday as part of an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Despite the Cathederal Quarter Arts Festival offices being gutted in the fire, the event's organisers have pledged to go ahead with the festival which runs from April 29 to May 9.
