LFT Demand Outstripping Supply

Community Pharmacy NI has warned that the demand for lateral flow tests (LFT) is currently outstripping supply in Northern Ireland.

Peter Rice, chair of Community Pharmacy NI, has said that the "main problem is getting supplies out from the central store to pharmacies".

According to Mr Rice, the supply of LFT's is managed by pharmaceutical wholesalers, but that these operators must prioritise the supply of medicines. Currently each pharmacy receive one box of LFTs per day, but Mr Rice has said that often this box can be used up "within the first hour or so of getting it".

It is understood that NI's pharmacies must make representations to the Department of Health in England over the need for a greater supply.

Community Pharmacy NI urged the public to be patient as pharmacies are under significant pressure.
