Sinn Féin Raises Concerns Over Home Care Availability
Sinn Féin has raised concerns with health officials at the lack of home care available to people across Northern Ireland.
The party's social care spokesperson, MLA Carál Ni Chuilín, also sought answers to the rising number of children being taken into care.
Carál Ní Chuilín said: "It's unacceptable that, despite being assessed and told they need it, over 1,600 people are waiting on home care and that's the message I gave to health officials today.
"This is putting huge pressure on people who need this care and their families, but also on the wider health service as many are unable to leave hospital as they cannot get care at home.
"We need a clear plan from the health minister on how he intends to tackle this crisis, including the recruitment of more staff to tackle the shortage and paying the living wage as well as better terms and conditions for workers.
"I also raised the fact that over 3,500 children are currently being looked after in care. That's a concerning rise and I'm calling on the Department of Health to act on this issue."

Cancer patients across Northern Ireland are starting treatment late as health trusts fail on basic performance standards, it has emerged. Last April, the health minister said 95% of people who were urgently referred with suspected cancer should begin treatment within 62 days.

£5m Announced For NI's Care Home Sector
A £5 million support package has been announced to help Northern Ireland's care home sector with rising energy costs. Care homes, like the rest of society, have been dealing with sharply rising energy prices. The £5m funding will be allocated by HSC Trusts on the basis of bed numbers per home.

Care Home Visiting Restrictions To Be Eased
Restrictions on visiting care homes are to be revised following the removal of wider restrictions in NI. Following advice from the Public Health Agency, Minister Swann has agreed that restrictions on visiting in care homes will move from 'Gradual Easing' to 'Further Easing'.
