Emergency Department Closures 'Not Inevitable'
Health Minister Robin Swann has said that the reported closure of emergency departments over the winter "is not inevitable".
The Minister was responding to a warning from medical director of the Northern Health Trust, Dr Seamus O'Reilly, who said that an emergency department may have to shut due to severe pressures on the health service.
According to reports, Mr Swann said that closures are "not inevitable" and that he and people working in the departments "didn't want that to happen".
However, Mr Swann said that it was right to "put out that precautionary message" urging the public "to play their part by coming forward to receive Covid and flu vaccines".
