Businesses Urged To Prepare For Plastic Packaging Tax
Businesses that manufacture or import plastic packaging, including if you import packaging which already contains goods, such as plastic bottles, are being urged to prepare for the introduction of the new Plastic Packaging Tax from 01 April 2022.
The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) along with Invest Northern Ireland and the Northern Ireland Food and Drinks Association (NIFDA) are hosting an online webinar on Friday 22 October at 10.00am-11.30am, with the focus on the implementation of the Plastic Packaging Tax.
Angela Colquitt and Hilary Pogson from HMRC will cover key elements and the latest updates relating to the tax, as well as how businesses can prepare for the tax and the next steps in the process. Phillip McMurray from DAERA will also cover what will happen next regards to policy and legislation in Northern Ireland.
Following the talks, there will be an opportunity to ask questions to the panel of speakers. Questions can be submitted upon registration for the event. The panel will answer these questions during the event.

Dáil Probes EU Plans For Common Tax System
An interim Dáil Committee will meet with officials from the Department of Finance today, to consider whether a new EU proposal for a consolidated system of calculating the tax base of businesses operating in the EU complies with the principle of subsidiarity. The meeting will take place at 2.30pm in Leinster House.

Employers reminded to stop paying Working Tax Credit
HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) have reminded employers that they must stop paying Working Tax Credit via their payroll by the end of this month. Since its introduction in April 2003, Working Tax Credit has been paid via employers to supplement the wages of people on low incomes.
