Work Underway To Enhance And Improve Albert Street
Work to enhance and improvement the Albert Street area of Belfast has gotten underway, Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey has announced, with £1.5m funding from the Department for Communities.
The scheme will focus on improving and enhancing the streetscape and will include an upgrade of footways, landscaping and new street lighting.
Minister Hargey said: "I am delighted to announce the investment of £1.5m from my Department towards a new public realm scheme in Albert Street, Belfast.
"This is a major investment for the area and will help to improve the streetscape for the local community and the numerous visitors to the area who visit the historic cathedral. This funding will complement previous public realm works funded by the Department and is part of our ongoing commitment to the regeneration of our town and city centres.
"This scheme will unlock wider physical and social regeneration in the area by providing a focus for environmental upgrading, improve access to amenities and economic activity as well as enhance the quality of the streets and landscape, which will boost the appearance of the entire area.
"This injection of funding will benefit local retailers, businesses, residents and visitors. Initiatives such as these help to make our towns and cities more appealing which contributes to their long term viability and prosperity and sustains our local economy."

Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland today announced funding of £150,000 for a revitalisation project based in Dromore town centre. The Dromore Revitalisation Project will enhance and complement work already completed and aims to improve the poor quality environment created by boarded up vacant properties and sites.

Man Arrested Following Arson Attacks In South Belfast
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a number of arson attacks in south Belfast. Two cars were set on fire in the Joy Street area and another vehicle was set alight in Friendly Street in the early hours of Friday morning, 09 September.

Man Charged Following Drugs Find
A man has been charged after police seized drugs, worth a street value of between £50,000-£75,000, in Co L'Derry. Cannabis plants and herbal cannabis were discovered during search in the High Street area in Draperstown on Wednesday. A 35-year-old man has been charged with possession and cultivation of class B drugs with intent to supply.
