Loganair celebrate 25 years of Derry to Glasgow route

Budget airline, Loganair celebrated 25 years service from City of Derry Airport to Glasgow at the weekend.

The first flight took place on 2nd of April 1979 an 8-seater aircraft from the old Eglinton runway, starting Northern Ireland's longest running air-routes by a single carrier.

The Glasgow route continues to be very successful and last year saw 16,000 passengers using the service, an increase of over 1,000 on the previous year.

Commenting on the achievement, Derry Mayor Councillor Shaun Gallagher said: "Over the past 25 years Loganair have played an essential part in creating links from the North West to Scotland. Ties between the Derry, Donegal and Scotland have always been extremely strong and I am delighted that the City of Derry to Glasgow route continues to be a success."

Since its foundation in 1962 Loganair has become the longest operating airline in Scotland.
