Man Injured Following Sectarian Assault In Co Down

A man is being treated in hospital following a "sectarian" assault in Co Down.

The incident occurred at the junction of Townsend and Kenlis streets close to Banbridge bus station.

The victim sustained a number of facial injuries.

PSNI Constable Jason Mathers said: "A man, aged in his 40s, was assaulted by a group of both males and females in the early hours of Sunday 25 July, between 2.30am and 2.45am. The incident place on the junction of Townsend Street and Kenlis Street. 

During the assault, the victim sustained a number of facial injuries, which subsequently required hospital treatment.

"We are treating this as a sectarian-motivated hate crime.

"Please cast your mind back and if you should have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, contact us on 101. The reference number to quote is 959 of 25/07/21."

Man in hospital after Magherafelt assault
A 23-year-old man is being treated in hospital following an assault in Magherfelt at the weekend. The attack is understood to have taken place in the Diamond and Market Street area of the town at around 1.20am on Sunday. The victim sustained injuries to his head during the incident and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

NI Misses Cancer Treatment Targets
Northern Ireland's hospitals have failed to meet target times for the treatment of patients referred for suspected cancer, a new report by the Department of Health revealed. Its guidelines say 95% of patients should begin their treatment within 62 days. Last December however, the figure stood at 81%, which was the third monthly fall in a row.

PSNI Appeal For Witnesses To Waterside Assault
The PSNI in L'Derry have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an assault in the Waterside area in the early hours of Sunday, 02 June. At approximately 2.20am, it was reported a man had been assaulted and a knife had been used in the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Roulston Avenue/Heron Way.

Arrests Follow East Belfast Assault
Three people have been arrested after a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were attacked at a house in east Belfast. East Belfast Alliance Councillor Máire Hendron has condemned those involved and said: "This was a brutal attack and my thoughts are very much with the man and the woman who were subjected to this sickening ordeal.
