Jane Kennedy to leave NIO
Security minister Jane Kennedy is to leave her post at the Northern Ireland Office in a cabinet reshuffle.
Ms Kennedy, who is MP for Liverpool Wavertree, is to take up the role of Minister of State at the Department of Work and Pensions.
She will be replaced by Barry Gardiner, MP for the London constituency of Brent North.
Commenting on the reshuffle, Secretary of State, Paul Murphy said: "Jane has played an exceptional role as Minister of State in the Northern Ireland Office. I will be sorry to lose her valued input and positive approach to the work of the Northern Ireland Office and I wish her well in her new role and future career.
"However, I welcome Barry to the Ministerial team and look forward to working with him. He brings with him experience from many varied areas of interest and I know he will make an effective contribution to the work of the Northern Ireland Office."
Ms Kennedy's appointment to the Department of Work and Pensions follows the resignation of Immigration Minister Beverly Hughes on Thursday in a row over visa.
