NIFRS To Relaunch Cadet Scheme

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) have announced plans to relaunch their Cadet Scheme in September 2021.

Announcing the relaunch, NIFRS said: "Now is your opportunity to develop life skills whilst building friendships and having fun.

"During term time Cadets attend a Fire Station one night each week, working alongside NIFRS Volunteers in a fun but structured programme.

"Applicants must be entering Year 11 this September and be under 15 years old by 01 July 2021.

"Priority will be given in the first instance to applicants who live or go to school in the geographical location of Bangor (Ards & North Down), Belfast, Lisburn or Newry.

"Application forms can be found on our Youth Engagement page. Completed application forms, with a subject line indicating which Branch you are applying to, must be emailed to cadets@nifrs.org by 12 noon on Friday 06 August.

"If you require any support completing or submitting the application form contact the NIFRS Prevention Deptartment on 028 92664221."

Farren welcomes jobs boost for Belfast
Minister for Employment and Learning, Dr Sean Farren, has welcomed the creation of 250 jobs at the new ‘Big W’ store, Yorkgate, Belfast, due to open at the beginning of November. Speaking during a visit to the store, Minister Farren said the jobs being created by Big W were a welcome boost to the local economy.

No licence, no fireworks, says Minister
Government Minister Jane Kennedy has called on members of the public interested in purchasing fireworks this Hallowe'en to purchase the necessary licence. A three-week radio advertising campaign which reminds the public of the need for a licence has already commenced.

NIFRS Supports Newry Cadet With Fundraising Campaign
The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has launched a fundraising campaign in support of a 15 year-old cadet from Newry who is suffering from ovarian cancer. The service is hoping to raise funds for the Cancer Fund for Children as it supports Leah Scholes throughout her treatment.
