Mother And Son Escape Injury During Aggravated Burglary

A mother and son have escaped injury following an aggravated burglary in north Belfast.

A man armed with a knife entered a house in the Flaxton place area at around 7am.

A purse was stolen during the incident.

The victims were badly shaken.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Gardiner said : "Just after 7am today, it was reported to us that a man entered a property in the Flaxton Place area, carrying a blade. A mother and her adult son, who were asleep downstairs, were awakened by the intruder who demanded money.  

"Having threatened the male occupant of the house, the man then made off with a purse. He is believed to be approximately 5' 6" in height and was wearing a black jacket with the hood up. He also had a blue facemask on and spoke with a local accent.

"Both of the victims have gone through a frightening ordeal and have been very shaken by it. If you were in the Old Mill Road area of the city in or around 7am this morning and saw a man fitting this description  - or you have any other information that could help our investigation, please get in touch with police on 101, quoting reference number 573 of 6/6/21."

Police are appealing for information to help trace missing man Jonathan Irszak. Mr Irszak, 35, was last seen leaving his home on the Blackskull Road in Banbridge at around 7am on Tuesday, 23 February. He was expected to arrive at work shortly after, however he never arrived.

One In Hospital After Sydenham Bypass Crash
One person has been taken to hospital after a crash on the Sydenham Bypass caused traffic chaos in Belfast this morning, 12 February. The Bangor bound route was closed for some time after two vehicles collided at around 7am near the City Airport. It has since reopened at the junction of Dee Street, but traffic remains delayed back onto the M2.

Renewed Appeal Over Fatal Crash In Co Antrim
The PSNI have renewed their appeal for witnesses following a fatal crash in Co Antrim. A car and a lorry were involved in the collision on the Roguery Road in Toomebridge at around 7am last Wednesday, 08 November. A man, who was a passenger in the car, was killed in the crash.

Motorist Dies In Collision
A man has been killed in a serious road traffic collision in County Londonderry. The crash, which occurred at around 7am near the junction of the Glenshane Road and the Claudy road, involved a lorry and a car. The man who was killed was the driver of the car. His name has not yet been released. The lorry driver is being treated for his injuries.
