Robbie Butler Appointed UUP Deputy Leader

Robbie Butler has been appointed the new deputy leader of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP).

New party leader Doug Beattie made the change.

Mr Butler will also continue in his role as the UUP's Chief Whip, however he will be supported by Andy Allen who has been selected as his deputy.

Leader Doug Beattie said: "I have said that fixing Northern Ireland is a priority for me and to do that I need the right people in the right place. 

"To that end I have asked Robbie Butler to become my Deputy Leader.  

Robbie is someone who has tremendous energy and positivity and works for the good of Northern Ireland. I want to harness that. 

"Robbie has been serving the Party as Chief Whip and he will continue in that vital role.  

"To assist Robbie in the Chief Whip's Office I have asked Andy Allen to become Deputy Chief Whip.

"Andy is someone who knows what it is to serve his country.  He is forward thinking, and someone I trust.

"Both of these men are my friends as well as my colleagues.

 I know that they will work for the good of everyone in Northern Ireland and to create a Union of people as our vision for the future."

DUP To Elect New Leader
The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is to meet today, 14 May, to elect a new leader and deputy leader. Lagan Valley MP Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Lagan Valley MLA Edwin Poots are in the running to replace Arlene Foster. 28 MLAs and eight MPs, will meet virtually to hear both men's pitches before voting in a secret ballot.

Naomi Long Named New Leader Of The Alliance Party
East Belfast MLA Naomi Long has been named the new leader of the Alliance Party. She succeeds David Ford who served served as Alliance Deputy Leader for the past 10 years. Mrs Long will be replaced as Deputy Leader at a Party Council in December. Mrs Long said it was a "huge honour" to take up the post.

Alliance Launches Election Manifesto
The Alliance Party has launched its Westminster manifesto. Alliance Deputy Leader, Naomi Long, said its MPs would bring a unique voice to Westminster. She said: "Alliance followed through on each of our previous manifesto commitments in the last Parliament, fulfilling our pre-election promises to the people.

FOLLOWING a series of disagreements within the Alliance Party Northern Ireland leadership, Seamus Close has resigned from his position as the party’s deputy leader. Mr Close said: “Recently, I have disagree with several decisions in the Alliance Party, including that of withdrawing from North Down during the General Election.
