Man Attacked By Armed Gang In L'Derry

A man has been attacked by a gang armed with hammers in L'Derry.

The victim sustained a head injury after being assaulted inside a flat in the Frield Close area at around 11.30pm on Friday.

A woman who was in the property was not harmed however she was left badly shaken.

Items were thrown from upstairs windows and smashed during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Galbraith said: "It was reported that a number of masked men, some of whom were armed with hammers, gained entry to a flat.

"A male occupant was assaulted during the ordeal and has sustained a minor injury to his head, which could, of course, have been much more serious.

"The female occupant, while not physically injured, has been left extremely shaken.

"The property was ransacked, with items thrown from the upstairs windows. A number of windows were broken, and various household appliances were also smashed.

"This was a reckless and worrying attack, which could have resulted in serious injury – not only to the occupants, but to any potential passers-by.

"Our enquiries are continuing."

Woman And Son Escape Injury After Shooting Attack In Co Armagh
A woman and her son have escaped injury following a shooting attack in Co Armagh. Shots were fired at a property in the Cloghoge Road area of Cullyhanna on Wednesday, 21 February. Windows were broken in the living room, kitchen and sitting room areas. The woman and child were inside the property at the time of the attack.

Ambulance damaged in brick attack
A brick has been thrown through a window of an ambulance in Dunmurry. The incident happened at around 9.50pm on Wednesday. While the driver escaped injury, police condemned the attack saying it had the potential for more serious consequences. This is just the latest in a spate of attacks on ambulance crew in recent times.

Armagh House Attacked In Racist Hate Crime
The home of a Syrian family living in Armagh has been attacked for the second time in as many days in what police are treating as a racially motivated hate crime. Windows were smashed at the property in Alexander Avenue at around 1.40am on Monday morning, 12 August. Just over a day earlier, graffiti was spray painted over the house.
