Shops destroyed in arson attack
An off-licence and two food shops have been destroyed in an arson attack in Co Down.
The attack happened on the Donaghadee Road in Newtownards on Tuesday night.
It is believed a fire was started in bins behind the shops which then set alight a natural gas pipeline.
The fire service said the fire was probably started maliciously and it was fortunate that no one was injured.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Investigation Launched After Arson Attack At House In L'Derry
An investigation has been launched following an arson attack at a house in L'Derry. The attack happened at a property in the Fern Drive area of Magherafelt just after 12.30am on Monday, 20 March. A bottle containing flammable liquid was thrown through the window of the house and a fire started downstairs.

NI's Chief Fire Officer Announces His Retirement
The Chief Fire Officer for Northern Ireland, Peter Craig, has announced that he is to retire after over 35 years of distinguished Service. Peter Craig is one of the longest serving officers in Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and was appointed as Chief Fire Officer in February 2011, having been the acting Chief from July 2010.
