CCEA launches interactive RE resource
The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) today launched an innovative interdenominational learning resource to help students produce top quality coursework and examination answers for CCEA GCSE Religious Studies.
Speaking at the launch of the ‘CrossTalk’ CD-ROM, Gavin Boyd, Chief Executive of CCEA, said the resource would provide young people with an "enjoyable and interactive learning experience, enabling them to view and learn about the interiors of church buildings from all over Northern Ireland without ever leaving the classroom".
"It allows GCSE students to explore the significance of church buildings, architecture and furnishings, and explores the similarities and differences of these features in the five main Christian denominations in Northern Ireland: Baptist, Catholic, Church of Ireland, Methodist and Presbyterian," he added.
CrossTalk is now available for use in all post-primary schools and Colleges of Further and Higher Education throughout Northern Ireland.
It addresses part of Section B of CCEA’s GCSE Religious Studies specification: ‘The Christian Church explored through Contrasting Denominations’.
Contributors to CrossTalk include: Rev. Ken Newell, Fitzroy Presbyterian Church; Right Rev. Monsignor Ambrose; Macauley PP, St Brigid’s Catholic Church, Belfast; Canon Walter Lewis, St Thomas’ Church of Ireland; Rev John Nelson, University Road Methodist Church; Pastor Gordon Darragh, Windsor Baptist Church; Pastor David McMillan, Windsor Baptist Church and Mr Paul Carswell, St Bride’s Primary School (Belfast).

Just Over 40 Appeals Issued Over A-Level And GCSE Grades
Just over 40 appeals have been lodged in the last six days following this year’s A-Level and GCSE results in Northern Ireland. This is a drop from 1,687 appeals in 2020 and 1,926 in 2019, in six days.

GCSE Results On The Rise In NI
Around 30,000 students across Northern Ireland have received their GCSE results today, 23 August, resulting in a 0.7% rise in passing grades A*-C. Approximately 81.1% of NI GCSE entries secured passing grades with around 10% receiving the top A* grade. The performance gap widened between boys and girls with 85.

Call For Free Vote Regarding Same-Sex Marriage
There are reports that two churches in Northern Ireland have called for the region's politicians to be allowed a free vote regarding same-sex marriage. It is understood representatives from both the Catholic church and Presbyterian church have said party whips should be removed on the issue when it is next debated at Stormont.

Spence Family Hold Funeral Service For Noel, Graham And Nevin
The funeral service of Noel, Graham and Nevin Spence has taken place at Ballynahinch Baptist Church. The father and two sons died tragically in a farming accident at their home in Co Down on Saturday. It is understood Graham attempted to rescue their dog from the slurry pit when he was overcome by slurry gas.
