Kayakers Rescued From Strangford Lough
A multi-agency operation has ensured the safe return of eight kayakers after they got into difficulty on Strangford Lough.
Portaferry RNLI, the Coastguard rescue helicopter, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance sprung into action on Saturday morning, 07 March, when two of the kayakers reported their equipment had capsized.
It's understood the pair had made their way to an island on the Co Down Lough to call for help at around 10.30am.
One person is believed to have been rescued from the water, three from a kayak and two from both Don O'Neill and Taggart Island when rescue personnel managed to reach them.
The individuals were transported to the shore by helicopter and lifeboat, where no further treatment was required.
