Broadcasters unite against racism in Ireland

UTV has joined three fellow Irish broadcasters to campaign against racism in Ireland.

TV3; TG4; UTV and RTÉ will air a series of education and awareness messages across all four stations from March 20.

There will be eight individual television promos; two each from the four participating broadcasters with a variety of thought provoking messages. The promos will air across UTV; RTÉ One; RTÉ Network 2; TV3 and TG4 and each broadcaster will run all eight promos.

Alan Bremner, Director of Television, UTV said: “UTV is delighted to support this campaign to raise public awareness of European Week Against Racism. In recent weeks racist attacks and propaganda in Belfast have been in the news, so it’s timely that broadcasters against racism unites the indigenous broadcasters with a common purpose."

The four broadcasters first met to discuss this initiative in December 2003, and had a series of production meetings in Dublin and Belfast.

The annoucement of the television campaign comes on the eve of the European Week Against Racism on March 21 to 27.
