Four Arrests In Lyra McKee Murder Probe
Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.
Police apprehended the individuals, aged 20, 27, 29 and 52 in L'Derry this morning, Tuesday 11 February.
Lyra was shot dead in the Creggan area of the city on 18 April last year during a night of dissident republican rioting.
The New IRA has since claimed responsibility for the 29 year-old's murder. Police said the four men are detained under the Terrorism Act at Musgrave Serious Crime Suite.
Following the arrests, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy renewed his call for the public to help bring Lyra's killers to justice.
"I have always believed that some people within the community know what happened and who was involved," he said.
"I understand that people may be frightened to talk to us."
Approaching anniversary of the young journalist's death, DS Murphy renewed his assurance of anonymity for those who come forward with information.
"I want the community in Creggan to think about how that horrific attack impacted them personally and how it impacted the entire community. We saw widescale revulsion after Lyra was murdered and I remain determined to work with the community and local policing to convert that revulsion into tangible evidence to bring those who murdered Lyra to justice."
It's also known that many people were recording footage on the night of 18 April and police would like to see any videos not previously submitted to the investigation.
Footage can be provided via the PSNI's Major Incident Public Portal.
