Strong Gales To Batter NI
A weather warning has been issued for Northern Ireland as winds of up to 80mph are forecast for this weekend.
The strong gales are set to bring disruption across the UK as they pick up from around 6pm on Saturday 08 February.
The Met Office has therefore issued a yellow weather alert to take affect from that time until midnight on Sunday.
Forecasters say there is potential for further national severe weather warnings to be issued and are advising people to monitor the latest updates over the weekend.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Dan Harris, commented: "Along with a spell of heavy rain, widespread gales are likely, and severe gales are possible in more exposed parts of the west and north of the UK."
Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are expected, with coastal routes and sea fronts likely to be battered by spray and large waves.
The Met Office said there is also a chance that some roads and bridges could close, with possible power cuts and loss of mobile phone coverage.
Members of the public are reminded of the potential for damage to buildings and the danger caused by tiles blown from roofs.
