Woman Sought Over Belfast Sexual Assault

Police are appealing for a member of the public who assisted a woman following a sexual assault in Belfast to come forward.

A 23 year-old woman was assaulted by a male in a public toilet in Bankmore Square at around 2.15am on Sunday 02 February.

A man, also aged 23, was arrested a short time later.

Police said the victim was assisted afterwards by an unknown female, who is believed to have reported the incident using the woman's phone.

Detective Sergeant Nick Harris said: "We would like to hear from the individual who approached the young woman and assisted her. You may have information that could assist us."

Investigating officers would also like to hear from anyone who was in the busy Dublin Road/Bankmore Square area around that time and believes they witnessed any suspicious activity to contact them on 101 quoting reference 275 of 02/02/20.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Nine people arrested in cigarette smuggling operation
Nine people have been arrested after the PSNI and customs investigators mounted an operation in connection with the smuggling of 23 million cigarettes into the UK. Seven men and two women were arrested after cigarettes, which are believed to have been manufactured in China, were shipped into Southampton and Belfast in freight containers.

81-Year-Old Woman Killed In Road Accident
An 81-year-old woman has died after a road accident in County Antrim. The car she was driving was in collision with a lorry on the A26 Lisnevenagh Road between Antrim and Ballymena at 3.30pm on Wednesday. The road, which was closed for a time following the incident, has since reopened.
