Men Plead Guilty To Terrorist Offences

Seven men have pleaded guilty to a combined 40 terrorist charges following a covert counter-terrorism operation in 2014.

Head of the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch, Detective Chief Superintendent Raymond Murray said the case is "one of the most significant terrorism cases in recent times given the seriousness of the offences and the number of people involved".

The operation was centred around a house in Ardcarn Park, Newry in 2014, where paramilitary operations were being carried out.

The suspects, whose ages range from 36 to 65 years-old, had been due to go on trial next week.

They will now each be sentenced in March, alongside an eighth man who entered a guilty plea earlier this month.

DC Murray added: "Today's result demonstrates our commitment to disrupting terrorism and protecting the community."

The arraignment took place at Belfast Crown Court on Wednesday 29 January.
