Pensioner Dies In Co Down Collision
A pensioner has died in a collision in Co Down.
The man aged in his 70's was involved in a single vehicle crash at Roddens Road, Ballywalter on Tuesday morning, 21 January.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are conducting enquiries to determine his cause of death. Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a Red Toyota Auris being driven in the area at around 7:45am is urged to contact officers in Newtownards on 101 quoting reference 219 of 21/01/20.
Alliance MLA Kellie Armstrong expressed her sympathies following the fatal collision and urged motorists using local roads to prioritise their safety while driving.
It comes after a woman aged in her 40's died in a one vehicle collision on the Portaferry Road, just outside Newtownards on Saturday 18 January.
"My thoughts and sympathies are with the loved ones of the man and woman who died in these crashes," the Strangford MLA said.
"Unfortunately, this is now two deaths on the roads of the Ards Peninsula in just a few days. Everyone in the community is shocked and sadden by these events. While we wait for the PSNI to conclude their investigations into the circumstances around these tragedies, I ask everyone to take action to improve road safety. We may never know what caused these crashes but we can all make a few changes to improve our safety and the safety of other road users.
"I would urge anyone with information on these incidents or who was witness to them to speak to police immediately."
