Appeal As Man Released Over Bar Assault Death
A man has been released on police bail over the death of a man in 2018 following a bar assault almost a year earlier.
Kieran Doherty was assaulted in the toilet area of the Captain's Bar in Coleraine on May 25, 2017. The 54 year-old was discovered unconscious some time later, and died of his injuries in hospital on April 28, 2018.
A 58 year-old man arrested in the Co L'Derry town on Thursday 09 January has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for information in connection with the murder investigation.
Detective Inspector Claire McGarvey said: "Kieran is missed dearly by his family and friends.
"I would like to hear from anyone with any information regarding the attack. Did you witness Kieran being assaulted or in an altercation with anyone in the bar? I would also like to hear from anyone who has information even if you weren't in the bar at the time.
"This original assault, which was reported to police on June 10, 2017, was subject to an investigation and since he died we have been treating it as a murder investigation. We have gathered witness evidence and conducted a number of interviews but would appeal to anyone with information to please bring it forward to police."
