Racist leaflet linked to loyalist paramilitaries
Loyalist paramilitaries have been linked to a racist leaflet distributed in parts of south Belfast this week.
Security sources have indicated that they believe the UVF may have been behind the leaflets handed out in the Donegall Pass area of the city on Monday.
Speaking today on Radio Ulster, Progressive Unionist Party leader David Ervine said that he thought certain individuals in the UVF had been involved in the production of the leaflet. He said that the party could not condone racism and would not "stand on the same ground as avowed racists".
He said that the party would be looking to its links with the paramilitary group, and it was not clear if the UVF leadership had approved the leaflet.
Earlier this week a lawyer who works for the a local Chinese welfare community group described the leaflet as "well written", but "unacceptable". An investigation by police resulted in the seizure of a computer in the Donegall Pass area on Wednesday.
The leaflet's racist content has been widely condemned by community leaders and politicians. Dr Ian Paisley said that the leaflet was "vicious and diabolical".
