Jonathan Cairns: Police Make Two More Arrests

Two further arrests have been made by detectives investigating a murder in Co L'Derry over 20 years ago.

A 51 year-old man was arrested in Limavady and a 43 year-old man in Ballykelly, police have said.

Both are detained on suspicion of withholding information.

Jonathan Cairns was attacked in his home village of Ballykelly as he made his way home from a night out on Sunday 25 April 1999.

His body was found in a shallow grave in Loughermore Forest, just miles from his home, the next day. He was just 18 years-old at the time.

A 44 year-old woman arrested in Dungiven on Tuesday has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Man Arrested Over Jonathan Cairns Murder
Detectives investigating the murder of an 18 year-old in Co L'Derry almost 21 years ago have made an arrest. Jonathan Cairns was attacked as he made his way home from a night out in his home village of Ballykelly on 25 April 1999. His body was discovered in Loughermore Forest, about five miles from his home, the next day.

Arrests As Police Seize £65k Drugs
A man and woman have been arrested after drugs worth an estimated £65,000 were seized. The Class A and B substances were recovered during a Paramilitary Crime Task Force operation in Newtownabbey and North Down on Tuesday 22 October. The raids were linked to the criminal activities of the west Belfast UDA.

Seven Arrests Over £160k Drug Raid
Seven people have been arrested following a drug raid that uncovered suspected cannabis worth an estimated £160,000 during searches in Belfast and Dunmurry. Along with the class B substance, suspected class A drugs worth around £1000 and a sum of cash were seized on Wednesday 08 January.

Four Men Arrested In Connection With Lyra McKee Murder
Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee. Ms McKee was fatally shot as she observed rioting in L'Derry in April 2019. She was 29 years old. Police investigating her death have arrested four men, aged 19, 20, 21 and 33, under the Terrorism Act.

Latest PO Robbery Sparks Appeal
Yet another post office has been targeted by robbers. Yesterday, Killyman PO, near Dungannon was the latest to be hit. Although no one was hurt, a trend of such rural hold-ups is emerging after other such post offices - including a mobile - have been targeted over the last week.
