McClenaghan Makes History With World Bronze Medal
Co Down gymnast Rhys McClenaghan has made history by winning bronze on the pommel horse at the World Gymnastics final.
Messages of congratulations have been flooding after the 20-year-old from Newtownards saw success in Stuttgart, making him the first ever Irish gymnast to secure a world win.
His feat followed a successful qualifying bid that secured him a place in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
"Creating history for my country is a feeling that I will for ever cherish," the gymnast later commented. "Roll on Tokyo."
SDLP Sport spokesperson Justin McNulty offered his congratulations and paid tribute to the sports star.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said: "Rhys McClenaghan is an outstanding ambassador for sport and for this island. He made history by winning this Bronze medal on Saturday and everyone is very proud of his achievement.
"Rhys epitomises everything that is good about sport. He is an example of what an individual can achieve with hard work and determination. He is the reigning European and Commonwealth champion. He is a role model for young boys and girls in every community across this island. I wish him every success as he now prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and I am excited to look forward to the success those games might bring."
England's Max Whitlock, the reigning Olympic champion, took gold in the tense pommel horse final.

All-Island School History Competition Launched
A 'Decade of Centenaries' all-island schools history competition has been launched today by Education Minister John O'Dowd and his Irish counterpart Jan O'Sullivan. The competition invites primary and post primary students across Ireland to submit a project on any topic relevant to the school history curriculum.

Belfast Zoo will soon be celebrating its 85th birthday with a fun filled adventure day offering a treasure hunt and 85 fantastic prizes. The birthday party will take place on Saturday 30 March and will feature a host of activities, including live history tales, animal feeding times, juggling workshops, garden games and street entertainment.

Plaque Honours 'Letter From Ulster' Director
Northern Ireland's most legendary film director and Belfast's first bohemian, Brian Desmond Hurst, is being honoured with a blue plaque in Queen's Film Theatre today. As part of the Belfast Film Festival both The Directors Guild of Great Britain and the Ulster History Circle will be recalling the east Belfast-born film maker at QFT at 7.
