'Brutal' Newtownabbey Attack Leaves Man Injured

A young man has suffered a suspected broken arm and leg following a paramilitary-style attack in Newtownabbey.

Three men, one of whom was armed with a hammer, entered a house in the Derrycoole Park area of the Co Antrim town at around 9.30pm on Tuesday evening, 24 September.

The armed man reportedly assaulted the occupant multiple times in the arm and leg.

Detective Sergeant Colin Gray said: "The 25-year-old victim is believed to have suffered a suspected broken arm and leg and has been left badly shaken by this incident.

"This was a brutal attack on a young man in his home. Nothing gives people the right to violate the human rights of others, and their actions should be condemned by all.

"Those who are involved in this type of attack do not represent the interests of any community, nor do they contribute anything to it. They do it to try and exert influence or gain control."

Police are continuing to investigate the assault and have urged anyone who was in Derrycoole Park on Tuesday evening and witnessed three men acting suspiciously, or believe they have any further information, to call detectives in Antrim on 101 quoting reference 2052 of 24/09/19.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
