Teens Charged Over Belfast Disorder

Two teenagers have been charged with offences relating to disorder in north Belfast this summer.

Trouble erupted in the New Lodge area of the city on 08 August when contractors were sent in to dismantle a bonfire. A violent stand off ensued before police withdrew and the pyre, which was located close to flats, was set alight as planned.

The teens, aged 18 and 15, will appear in court in October.

The 15-year-old is facing other public offence charges following events in the North Queen Street area on 31 July. He is due in Belfast Youth court on Monday 07 October, while the 18-year-old will appear at Belfast Magistrates on Tuesday 08.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service, as is normal procedure.
