Teens Injured In L'Derry Assaults
Two teenagers have been left with leg injuries following what police say was a suspected paramilitary style attack in L'Derry.
Detectives are appealing for information following the assault in the Iniscarn Road area of the city on Thursday evening, 29 August.
A gang of masked men reportedly assaulted a 17-year-old male with a crowbar in a field. The victim was taken to hospital at around 11pm with leg injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
A short time later, at around 12.20am, police received reports that a 16-year-old male had also received leg injuries during the earlier incident at Iniscarn Road. The male was treated at hospital for injuries not believed to be life threatening.
Police enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Inspector Michael Winters said: "This was a vicious and brutal assault, in which there was no justification for this type of attack. We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and stop this from happening to anyone else.
"We would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the Iniscarn Road area between 10pm and 11pm last night to contact detectives at Strand Road on 101, quoting reference number 2247 29/08/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
