Arrests & Searches In CIRA Probe

Two men have been arrested following a number of police searches into the Continuity IRA.

A 37-year-old man arrested under the Terrorism Act in Newtownabbey on Thursday evening, 29 August, remains in custody this morning.

He was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.

The arrest came after a number of searches in west Belfast and Newtownabbey on Thursday in connection with an ongoing investigation into violent dissident republican activity linked to the Continuity IRA.

A number of items, including a quantity of suspected ammunition, have been seized for further examination.

A 31-year-old man arrested in west Belfast yesterday as part of the same investigation remains in police custody at this time.

Four Men Arrested In Connection With Lyra McKee Murder
Four men have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Lyra McKee. Ms McKee was fatally shot as she observed rioting in L'Derry in April 2019. She was 29 years old. Police investigating her death have arrested four men, aged 19, 20, 21 and 33, under the Terrorism Act.

Latest PO Robbery Sparks Appeal
Yet another post office has been targeted by robbers. Yesterday, Killyman PO, near Dungannon was the latest to be hit. Although no one was hurt, a trend of such rural hold-ups is emerging after other such post offices - including a mobile - have been targeted over the last week.

Derry Crash A man has been taken to Altnagelvin hospital following a crash at Gransha roundabout in Londonderry. Two lorries collided on Clooney Road at approximately 9.20am Tuesday morning. The extent of the man's injuries is currently unknown. Following the accident, the Limavady bound carriageway was closed.
