Man Struck With Hammer In 'Vicious Assault'
A man has been hospitalised after he was struck on the head with a hammer during a "vicious assault" in County Antrim.
A gang of males forced entry to a home in the Kellburn Park area of Ballyclare in the early hours of this morning, Friday 23 August. Police are treating the incident as a paramilitary style attack.
The man, who sustained head injuries during the aggravated burglary, is said to be in stable condition.
Detective Sergeant Coulter said: "This was a vicious assault on a man in his own home, a place where everyone has the right to feel safe."
Police said the ambulance service reported they were attending to the man at around 12.45am. It is believed the attack occurred sometime between 12.25am and the time of reporting.
DS Coulter added: "We are currently treating this as a paramilitary style attack and I want to appeal to anyone who was in the Kellburn Park area between 12:20am and 12:50am this morning and saw any suspicious activity to call us on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference number 73 of 23/08/19."

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Detectives investigating an attack on a 60-year-old man over the weekend have appealed to the public for help identifying the gang responsible. The victim was subject to the "vicious and unprovoked" attack in the area of McGurk's Way and Lancaster Street in north Belfast in the early hours of Saturday morning, 06 April.

Police have said that a man suffered a serious head injury when he was attacked during a burglary at his flat on Edinburgh Street at about 22:30 on Saturday, 23 October. A man who was left with serious head injuries following a vicious attack in Lisburn last night has died in hospital. James McMahon, 21, was attacked by three masked men in Lisburn at around 10.30pm on Thursday. The victim suffered serious head injuries after being beaten with baseball bats during the assault at Hancock Street in the city centre.
