Shot Fired At North Belfast House

A shot has been fired at a house in the New Lodge area of north Belfast in what police have branded a "completely reckless attack".

A man, who was alone in the house on Spamount Street at the time, escaped injury when the shot rang out shortly before 11pm on Tuesday evening, 23 July.

He then reported two males fleeing the scene along Edlingham Street in the direction of Stratheden Street. One is described as wearing a light grey hooded top and the other a darker coloured hooded top.

Damage was caused to a window and the inside of the property.

Detective Sergeant Corrigan condemned the incident. He said: "We are fortunate the occupant of the house, or indeed anyone else who may have been in the vicinity, wasn't injured."

Sinn Féin Councillor JJ Magee also hit out against those responsible. The Oldpark representative said: "Thankfully no one was injured in this incident but it was terrifying for residents in the area.

"I would encourage anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI."

Details of any suspicious activity, people or vehicles in the area can be passed to detectives at Musgrave by calling 101, quoting reference 2389 of 23/07/19.
