Arrest As Taxi Driver Robbed At Gunpoint

A man has been arrested after a taxi driver was struck in the face with a gun and robbed in Antrim.

The incident took place at around 00.30 this morning, 18 July, when a driver collected two males and a female in the Ballymena Road area and took them to Junction One.

Once they arrived, the male front seat passenger brandished a firearm and demanded money from the driver before striking him in the face with the weapon.

The trio then fled the scene.

A short time later reports of a break in at a burger van in the Springfarm area and criminal damage at a shop on the Ballymena Road were received and a 20 year old man was arrested.

He remains in custody this morning.

Police have asked anyone with information which may assist their investigation to contact the Reducing Offending Unit on 101, quoting reference number 45 of 18/07/19.

Bushmills Arson Arrest
An alleged overnight arson attack in Bushmills in which a car was set alight is being probed by the police. It is believed a petrol bomb was used in the car blaze incident which took place in the Haw Road area of the Co Antrim town. A police spokesperson confirmed two nearby sheds were also "significantly damaged" in the fire.

Children involved in Westlink stone throwing
Police have called on parents to keep a closer eye on their children following an incident when youngsters between 10 and 12 years-old threw stones at motorists on a busy Belfast road on Tuesday. Two people were hurt and around 20 vehicles damaged on a stretch of the Westlink by children thowing stones at passing vehicles.

Female Drink Driver Arrested After Early Morning Collision
Police have said a drink driver could have killed or seriously injured pedestrians if the car she was driving had not hit a parked vehicle. The female offender, who is 20 years old, was driving a white car when it collided with another vehicle on the Oldtown Road in Cookstown yesterday morning, Tuesday 09 April.

Delivery Driver Threatened At Knifepoint In West Belfast
Police have launched an investigation after a delivery driver was threatened at knifepoint in west Belfast. The attack happened in the Ardcaoin area of Poleglass at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, 18 July. The suspects threatened the pizza delivery driver, assaulted him, stole a sum of cash and made off.
