Police Officer Rescues Man From Water
A PSNI officer dived into the sea in Portrush to rescue a cliff diver who had got into difficulties in the water.
Officers on the North Coast received a call of a man struggling in the water near Dunluce shortly after 6pm on Tuesday evening, 25 June.
Upon arriving at the scene, an officer entered the water and kept the male afloat until an RNLI rescue effort was mobilised. The Inshore Lifeboat crew arrived at the scene at 6.15pm and transported the casualty and the police officer to shore in Portballintrae.
The man was later transferred to hospital.
Keith Gilmore, Lifeboat Operations Manager with the RNLI, said the swimmer was very lucky that there was someone on scene to assist while the Inshore Lifeboat launched and arrived on scene. He added: "The volunteer crew were very quickly able to get the two people into the ILB and transported to a waiting ambulance. This is the classic scenario that we train for each week and the crew are very skilled and highly trained for this type of rescue. We would like to wish the two casualties a speedy recovery."
A PSNI spokesperson said the operation is an example of good team work with partner agencies.
