Public Urged To Voice Opinion On A5 Development
Public consultation on the A5 redevelopment is set to close this Friday, 17 May.
Members of the public have been urged to voice their opinion on the plan ahead of Friday's closing date.
The £150 million scheme aims to create a new stretch of road spanning 85km, running from New Buildings, via Strabane, Newtownstewart, Omagh and Ballygawley and terminating in the border area of Aughnacloy.
The project was stalled after the government redirected €27 million of its funding to help plug the overspend on the National Children's Hospital.
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has called on the public to make their voice heard on the scheme.
She said: "The public consultation on the A5 road upgrade project is set to close on Friday and I would encourage everyone to have their say.
"The A5 upgrade is vital for stimulating the economy of the entire north west region it passes through.
"This essential infrastructure project will also boost connectivity, cut journey times and improve road safety.
"This is the latest stage towards work beginning on this important project and I am looking forward to seeing progress being made."
World's Biggest Literary Festival Set For Co L'Derry Village
News that the world's biggest literary festival is to take place at Seamus Heaney's home place in Bellaghy has been described as a 'perfect pairing' by the Chair of Mid Ulster District Council.
Councillor Sean McPeake was commenting on next month's event (23 June), which will see HomePlace, the literary centre which showcases the life and literature of the Nobel Laureate become one of only two venues here to host the Jaipur Literary Festival.
The festival takes place in India annually and is considered one of the most important events of its kind across the globe, bringing together a diverse mix of the world's greatest writers, thinkers, humanitarians, politicians, business leaders, sports-persons and entertainers on one stage to engage in thoughtful dialogue and debate.
"Given Seamus Heaney is a writer of international standing and the Jaipur festival is renowned across the globe, the choice of HomePlace as a venue is a perfect pairing," said Councillor McPeake.
"The element of the festival being held in Bellaghy, which will feature two 'in conversation' events exploring aspects of Indian and Irish culture and is another indication of the reputation and relationships which HomePlace is developing as an international attraction in itself."
The Festival will host events at the Seamus Heaney HomePlace on Sunday 23 June 2019.
