Four Arrested Over Lyra McKee's Murder

Detectives investigating the murder of Lyra McKee have arrested four individuals, including two teenagers.

The journalist died while reporting on a night of violent disorder in the Creggan area of L'Derry on Thursday 18 April. She was fatally injured when a dissident gunman fired indiscriminately towards police, wounding her as she stood beside a police jeep.

The four males, aged 15, 18, 38 and 51 were arrested in the city this morning in connection with the violence and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite in Belfast.

They are being detained under terrorism legislation.

The senior detective leading the investigation, Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy, said: "As part of this morning's operation detectives carried out searches at four houses in the city and arrested four people in connection with the violence which was orchestrated on the streets of Creggan on the evening of Lyra McKee's murder. They are currently in custody where they are being questioned.

"I want to thank the public for the widespread support we have received to date, including more than 140 people who have provided images, footage and other details via our dedicated Major Incident Public Portal. I still want to hear from anyone who can tell us anything they know. I would urge anyone who has any information to contact my team of detectives on 101. Alternatively, if you would prefer to provide information without giving your details, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Two Charged With Murdering Owen Creaney
Two people have been charged with the murder of Owen Creaney. Mr Creaney, 40, who has been described as "frail and vulnerable" by police, was found in a wheelie bin at a property in the Craigavon area on Saturday (5 July). Following the discovery, detectives arrested a man, aged 27, and a 23-year-old woman in connection with the incident.

The PSNI have issued an appeal for information and witnesses following an assault in Coleraine on Saturday morning, 12th August. Detective Sergeant Gardiner said: "Police received a report shortly after 10.50am that a man had been assaulted by a number of other men in the Heights area of the town.

Police renew murder appeal
Police have renewed their appeal into the murder of a man in Co Down last month. Andrew Cully, a father of two teenage boys from Greyabbey, was shot up to 10 times as he sat in his parked car in the loyalist West Winds estate in Newtownards on 24 March. Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw Mr Cully sitting in his car prior to the shooting.

Four Arrested Over Letter Bombs
Four people have been arrested in L'Derry by detectives investigating a series of letter bombs sent to addresses in Northern Ireland and England last year and earlier this year. Two men aged 35 and 46 and two women aged 21 and 44 were arrested in the city and taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for interview.

Drugs seized during police raids
Police in Newtownabbey have seized cannabis and drug paraphernalia during a planned search operation in the Rathcoole Estate on the outskirts of north Belfast. The raids were part of the Newtownabbey Community Responsive Campaign against drug use in the area, carried out under the 'Misuse of Drugs act.
