Four men arrested following racist attack
Police believe an attack on three men in south Belfast last night was racially motivated.
The incident occurred in the Botanic area of the city at about 11.30pm when the men were set upon by up to four people.
The victims suffered cuts and bruises following the assault at a nearby hospital.
Four men were subsequently arrested by police. Two of the men were released on bail pending further investigation.
Alliance Councillor Tom Ekin condemned the attack saying such incidents were pointless.
He said: "I totally condemn the actions of anyone who takes part in racist attacks. These pointless incidents show that there are those in our society who have little understanding of tolerance, and that we have some way to go before minority ethnic communities can feel completely welcome here".
Councllor Eakin, who is chairman of Belfast City Council's new Good Relations Committee, encouraged anyone who may have witnessed this attack to contact police immediately.
