Female Drink Driver Arrested After Early Morning Collision

Police have said a drink driver could have killed or seriously injured pedestrians if the car she was driving had not hit a parked vehicle.

The female offender, who is 20 years old, was driving a white car when it collided with another vehicle on the Oldtown Road in Cookstown yesterday morning, Tuesday 09 April.

Her car flipped during the collision. Police said she was three times over the legal alcohol limit when tested at the roadside.

Writing on Facebook, PSNI Cookstown added: "And just as horrifying is the thought that had the vehicle not been stopped by hitting the parked car, it would most certainly have killed or seriously injured any pedestrians walking nearby.

"The driver involved will be charged to court to answer for their actions. We will continue to work in partnership with our communities to send out the message that drink/drug driving is never acceptable and we will robustly challenge those who chose to ignore this message."

The offender has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
