Homes Evacuated In Co Down Arson Attack

A number of homes in County Down were evacuated overnight after a car was targeted in an arson attack.

Police are investigating after a BMW 5 series, which was parked outside a house in Burren Meadows in Newcastle, was deliberately set alight at around 1.30am this morning, Tuesday 09 April.

Police and firefighters attended the scene and dealt with the blaze. A number of nearby homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Officers are working to establish a motive for the attack and have appealed for anyone who was in the area and who may have seen anything to call 101 quoting reference 61 09/04/19.

Two Pipe Bombs Found In Co Antrim
Two pipe bombs have been found following two explosions in Ahoghill, Co Antrim. The explosive devices went off at two separate addresses in the Brookfield Gardens area at around 2am on Thursday. There were no reports of any injuries, however the front of one of the properties was damaged.

Loyalists thought to be behind pipe bomb attacks
Loyalist paramilitaries are thought to have been behind two separate, but connected, pipe bomb attacks in Londonderry early this morning. In the first attack five people, all Protestants, escaped injury after a pipe bomb was thrown at a house in Bond's Place in the Waterside area of the city at about 2am.

Police Attacked During Bomb Alert
Police responding to a bomb alert in Co Tyrone came under attack with paint bombs and pieces of masonry. Police say that they were examining a suspicious vehicle in the Ballycolman estate in Strabane when they came under attack on Monday night. Two controlled explosion were carried out but police say that "nothing untoward" was found.

Guests evacuated from hotel in petrol bomb attack
Over 150 guests had to be evacuated from a leading Belfast hotel on Wednesday morning following a petrol bomb attack. Five devices are thought to have been thrown at the Days Hotel in the predominantly loyalist Sandy Row area of the city shortly before 4am. Damage was caused to the front and side of the hotel, but no one was injured in the attack.

Home evacuated after possible racial attack
A number of people have had to evacuate their homes after a suspected pipe bomb was discovered outside a house in south Belfast this morning. Police believe the device, which was found outside the house in Coolfin Street shortly after 7.30am, is linked to racial attacks in the area. The device was later discovered to be a firework.
