DUP Slam Theresa May's 'Lamentable' Brexit Negotiations
The DUP has criticised Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit negotiations as "lamentable".
It comes after Mrs May announced yesterday, 02 April, that she is to ask the EU for a further extension to Brexit.
A statement from the Stormont Party said the PM's handling of the negotiations has caused Parliament's rejection of the deal and failure to deliver a "sensible Brexit".
Mrs May also called on Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to meet her in a bid to find a compromise, in a statement the DUP said comes as "little surprise".
"Though it remains to be seen if sub-contracting out the future of Brexit to Jeremy Corbyn, someone whom the Conservatives have demonised for four years, will end happily," the DUP said.
"We want the result of the referendum respected, and just as we joined the Common Market as one country we must leave the EU as one country.
"We will continue to use our position within Parliament and with the Government to argue strongly the case for Northern Ireland and the integrity of the United Kingdom. We remain consistent in judging all Brexit outcomes against our clear unionist principles."
The UK remains scheduled to leave the EU on 12 April, unless officials in Brussels agree to another extension. It is likely to demand that the UK take part in European elections on 23 May.
Preparations for a no-deal scenario are continuing.
