Warning After Several Co Down Retailers Targeted

Police in County Down have issued after a warning a series of crimes at various retailers across the Ards Peninsula.

Three shops were targeted on Sunday afternoon, 31 March. In the first instance at Sainsbury's in Bangor shortly after 2pm, a man distracted a cashier while another stole £160 from the till.

Only two hours later, a male exchanged £200 of fake money in Tesco Bangor, and a similar incident at around 5.25pm in Primark Netownards saw a cashier defrauded of £100.

A PSNI Spokesperson said: "Sunday trading hours mean most stores will be closing at 6pm, however it is likely that there will be more attempts to defraud in this way in the coming days. Large stores please ensure cashiers are aware.

"For convenience stores who remain open this evening please be aware and report any suspicious activity to police."

Consultation Launched On L'Derry Sports Ground Redevelopment

A Consultation period has opened on plans to redevelop the Daisyfield Sports Grounds in L'Derry.

Derry City and Strabane District Council is urging local people to take part in an online survey regarding the proposals.

This follows a successful event last month which saw members of the public also give opinions on redevelopment plans for Brandywell Stadium.

The Brandywell sports centre was established in the 1980's and was recently demolished in preparation for the new Brandywell stadium and greyhound track which opened in Spring 2017.

The Daisyfield Sports Grounds project proposes to provide a replacement centre in the area and to refurbish the existing natural grass pitches.

The project brief, following preliminary consultation for the proposed development, includes a single storey sports centre with facilities for boxing, snooker, social area, four block changing room facility, 100x500m grass pitch, Fifa 1 star synthetic multi use games area, car parking and access facilities.

The public can complete the survey here.

Club, Schools, Groups and Organisations can find their version of the survey here. Only one response can be submitted per group.
