Over £166k Awarded To Community Groups
Community groups in the Lisburn & Castlereagh area have benefited from over £166,000 through the council's Community Support Grant Scheme.
Organisations can put the money towards their running and programme costs, through the initiative that fosters a partnership between the local community and the council.
Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council's Leisure and Community Development Committee said: "The council is committed to developing its communities and is delighted to have provided financial support to 66 community and voluntary groups across its area. These groups play a very important role within their communities through developing services to meet the needs of local people and ultimately improving the quality of life in their neighbourhood.
"These grants allow local groups to support their members in becoming active citizens within their community; and encourage them to target areas of social need. The council supports empowerment of its residents and these local groups can help make and influence decisions in their community."
