Woman Suffers Life-Changing Injuries In Hit-And-Run

A 31-year-old woman has been hospitalised with serious and "potentially life changing" injuries after she was hit by a car that failed to stop.

The incident happened on the Ormeau Road at around 10.50pm on Saturday 16 March.

Police were called to the scene after a silver vehicle struck the female pedestrian and failed to stop. A silver vauxhall vectra, registration LEZ6283, was later found burnt out on the Ballyutoag Road just outside north Belfast.

Detectives are keen to speak to the occupants of that vehicle and anyone who may have saw it in the days leading up to the hit and run, or anyone who witnessed the incident and may have dash cam footage.

PSNI Sergeant Allister Hagan said: "While I am thankful for those witnesses who have already come forward, and would also like to thank those people who assisted the injured woman in the immediate aftermath of the collision, I need anyone who saw the incident or anyone who may have dash-cam footage to contact police.

"I am particularly keen to speak with anyone who witnessed a silver-coloured car bearing substantial frontal damage leaving the scene."

A 29-year-old man arrested on Monday in connection with the ongoing police investigation has been released pending further enquiries.
