Former SDLP Leader To Stand For Fine Gael

Former SDLP leader Mark Durkan is set to run as an election candidate for Fine Gael in the upcoming European elections in May.

It comes after the Stormont party recently announced its partnership with Fianna Fáil.

The former Foyle MP will return as a Fine Gael candidate for Dublin.

Mr Durkan led the SDLP from 2001 to 2010, succeeding John Hume.

He also served briefly as Northern Ireland's deputy first minister alongside the Ulster Unionist Party's first minister David Trimble.

FG Boss Kenny Visits Stormont
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny is today holding talks with politicians at Stormont. Mr Kenny is leading a delegation that will meet with Secretary of State Owen Paterson, First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. The visit comes just after the Fine Gael leader won a no confidence vote last week within his party.

Former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave Dies Aged 97
The former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave has died at the age of 97. Mr Cosgrave was elected the leader of Fine Gael in 1965 and held the post for eight years. He became the Irish prime minister in 1973. Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD said: "I want to extend my condolences to the family and friends of former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave on his passing.
