Murder Probe Launched After Man Shot Dead In County Antrim

The death of a man at a house in the Glenwherry area of County Antrim, between Ballymena and Larne, is being treated as murder by police.

The victim's body was found by a neighbour at the property on the Church Road at around 1pm on Tuesday 19 February.

He has now been identified as 52-year-old David Murphy, and is understood to have been fatally shot on Monday.

Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Alliance MLA Stewart Dickson expressed his shock at the murder. He said: "My thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased at what must be an extremely sad time for them. It will have caused great distress in what is a quiet, rural area.

"It is important the police establish the circumstances of this man's death. If anyone has any information whatsoever, I would urge them to contact the PSNI with it immediately."

Investigating officers can be contacted on 101, quoting reference 544 of 19/12/19.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.
