ATMs Stolen From Antrim Supermarket With Digger
Two ATMs have been stolen from an Asda store by thieves using a large digger.
The machines at the Antrim supermarket were stolen in the early hours of Friday morning, 01 February.
DUP MLA for south Antrim Pam Cameron expressed her shock at the incident. She said: "Horrified to see evidence of smash and grab of two ATMs at Asda this morning. My colleagues and I will be speaking to the PSNI about this incident. Anyone with information should pass it on calling 101."
It is believed the crooks targeted the store on the Ballymena Road shortly before 2.10am and fled the scene, along with the ATMs, in a "white pick-up type vehicle" and dark coloured four-door saloon car.
The structure containing the machines was also damaged during the incident.
Police have issued an appeal for information: "The white coloured Mitsubishi L200 pick up style vehicle, Reg number SH61 MHE, is believed to have been stolen from the Ballyeaston Village area of Ballyclare shortly before 11:05pm last night (Thursday 31st January). The vehicle was later found burnt out on the Tildarg Road area at around 7:20am this morning. Police believe that a white coloured canopy which was part of the vehicle at the time it was stolen had been removed and discarded in the area prior to the ATM theft taking place.
"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have seen a white coloured canopy in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 62 1/2/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
