£20,000 in football game receipts stolen

An estimated £20,000 worth of takings was stolen last night during a Co Antrim Shield football fixture between Glentoran and Linfield at the Oval.

County Antrim FA secretary Brian Dummigan and treasurer John Hamilton were robbed as they left the stadium in east Belfast shortly before the final whistle.

The two assailants were armed with a handgun and a hammer. Mr Dummigan and Mr Hamilton were left traumatised but uninjured following the incident.

Ulster Unionist councillor Jim Rogers, who is affiliated with Glentoran, condemned the incident and said he believed that a paramilitary organisation was involved in the robbery.

The game itself ended 1-0 for Linfield who progress to the final of the competition were they'll face Ards.
